PaPer Cubed December Challenge

Here is my submission for Paper Cubed's December challenge. The challenge was to create some type of organizer for the holidays. This is what I came up with. I will post a video of it tomorrow.

Here is the inside. There are tabbed divided sections, and pockets for assorted items. The inside section is removable so when it is used up you can replace it and still use the cover.

P3 Challenge Time!

It is Paper Cubed challenge time again. The challenge this month is to use acetate in your project. I made a treat holder. The base is made from a sizzix die called envelope, pocket. I then used a circle Nestability to make a window. To cover the window I used acetate that has been embossed with a web embossing folder. I then cut a matt for the window from some Stampin Up designer paper called Wickedly Fun Specialty. I wrapped a piece of Purely Pomegranate Satin ribbon around the flap before sealing the sides with adhesive. I die cut a spider and made a matted label for the pocket.

I then made a tag to attach to the top of the pocket. I used more Purely Pomegranate ribbon and tied it with a small piece of striped grosgrain in pumpkin pie. Both stamps are from Stampin Up.

P3 Time Again

The Challenge at Paper Cubed for this month is to create a bookmark. This is a very simply but effective bookmark. I layered two die cut tags from the Two Tags die from Stampin Up together. The top piece is cut, using a exacto blade, around the perforation to make that piece seperate. It is the part that slips over your page. I added the crimping on the bottom as a decorative touch. These ones are Christmas themed but this tag is so versatile you can turn it into any theme.

This is how it fits over your page. Fun, fast and effective....Fabulous!

P3 Challenge for August

It's Paper Cubed time again. The challenge this month is to create a photo display. It could not be a traditional frame. This was my take on it. It is an origami cube that swivel on a base. Great for your desk or a mantel. This is quite large, measuring about 4" across.

P3 Challenge for July

The challenge for this month is to create some type of table top decor. I chose to make this one it can either be for Canada Day or Forth of July.

To make it for the Forth of July simply add some blue stars.

The Basket is made using part of the basket and blooms die. The largest star is using the star, 5 point 3-D die. The smaller stars are from Stampin Up punches.

Flower Folds Treat Container Tutorial

Are you ready for the tutorial? This box was super fun and easy to make. I used the Flower Folds die from Stampin Up. This die has four different sized flowers on it all the same flower. I used the second largest, but this idea would work for any of the flowers, measurement however would change.

First die cut two of the second largest flower from the die. I used Old Olive cardstock. Then I cut a piece of cardstock in Very Vanilla 6 1/4" x 5". The 5" measurement is for the height of the box, you can alter this to whatever height you desire. On the landscape layout I scored every 3/4" and then that left the last score so there is 1/4" left at the end for your adhesive. See Below*

I then burnished all the score lines with my bone folder.

This is now what your paper should look like.

I then stamped some images on the paper. I used some Tim Holtz vines and some butterflies.

I also like to sponge all my edges, so then I used some brown ink and an ink tool to sponge my scored edges.

Apply a strip of adhesive to the 1/4" end piece. I like to use the Sookwang tape but sticky strip is good as well.

Because there is an even amount of sections, I was able to remove the adhesive and easily line it up by folding both sides in to the center as shown an overlapping over the adhesive strip. I find it easier to get the adhesive straight when I do it this way. * I was just reading over my post and realized this would also be a good way to stamp your image to get an unbroken design around your box.

You should now have a tube that looks similar to this.

Score new fold lines slight out from the die cut score lines. So that they are from each petal to petal where they meet the center, as shown above.

Sponge your edges as shown

(sorry somehow lost this picture, it was of adhesive on the inside of the petals)
Apply a fast drying adhesive to the inside of the petals only.

wrap the petals up over the bottom of your tube. I overlap the petals one by one so they are all overlapping in the same direction. This can take a few moments. You can then hold in place with an elastic for a few minutes.

Cut tow 7" pieces of grosgrain or other ribbon, and apply adhesive tape to one side of each, as shown.

wrap the ribbon slowly around the bottom petals. Then add top flower part without adhesive on the petals and wrap second ribbon around as before. I was able to do this without an elastic, but it is much easier if you hold the petals in place first with an elastic and then wrap ribbon around cover. No adhesive is added to top petals as this is your lid and you want to be able to remove it.

Your box should now look like this.

I added a small bow to the ribbon on the lid.

I then decided I wanted a knob on the top of the lid, so remove your lid and using a piercing tool make a small hole in the center of the lid.

I then added a Tim Holtz Hitch fastener to the hole for my knob.

Voila, you have a custom container for all sorts of goodies. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial.

June P3 Challenge Submission

Here is my project for Paper Cubed this month. The challenge is to make a treat container. It can be any kind of treat container. I decided to make one from scratch, I prefer to come up with something new and different. I used a Sizzix die to help make this little cutie. I will be posting the tutorial for this later this week.

This box will easily hold some delicious goodies of your choice. You can vary the height of this box to whatever you want to contain inside.

Paper Cubed Shadow Box Challenge

Happy National Scrapbook Day everyone! Today is also special for another reason. It is also the first time I am participating in the Paper Cubed Challenge as one of their new Design Team members. The challenge was to create a Shadow Box. This is what I came up with.

I colored the box with some vintage photo and walnut stain distress inks. I then took a gold dauber and added some highlight to the edges. I wanted to be sure the frame had lots of depth. The very back of the inside of the box is covered with a piece of vintage sheet music that the edges have been distressed. I then stamped a flourish in Peeled Paint distress ink in the lower left corner.

I added some homemade flowers to the lower inside right corner. They are attached on top of a bit of cheesecloth and then some feathers are tucked in as well. These are actually some of the flowers my daughter made here. She was so pleased I used them on this project.

A friend has this great leaf stem die and she cut me out a bunch as a favor. I glimmer misted them with a green and them shaded one side with peeled paint distress ink. I also added some bling to the branch part.

I colored my bird with watercolor crayons using chocolate, more mustard and ruby red. The added glossy accents to the whole bird. Once dry I attached him to the cage.

I die cut this frame out of a Stampin Up die. I then edged with vintage photo and stamped a damask also in vintage photo. Then I chose a sentiment and stamped it in black. I used crackle accents to highlight the letters. The whole sentiment is on dimensionals.

The same friend who die cut me the branch also die cut me some birdcages since at the time my Tim dies were not here yet. I used one for this project. I used some brushed corduroy distress crackle paint to cover the die cut and then highlighted areas with my gold dauber. I wanted the cage to appear round and not flat so I curled it a bit and then attached only the outside edges so the center was curved. I then added some fun gem bling to the cage.

I added a few other elements like faux hinges at the top and a Prima flower to the outside corner of the box. The cage also appears to be hanging from a piece of chain.

I had a great time making this project and hope you enjoy it as well.
